No more ‘magic’ marketing when it comes to ESG ratings

SDG for ESG ratings

With the release of the AI-powered platform Sevva, companies can no longer hide their ESG ratings against the 17 Sustainable Development Goals ( SDG ) and 8 additional governance criteria such as client relations, risk assessment, and executive compensation.

Cambridge University has teamed with All Street Research to create Sevva, a platform that provides environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings for 70,000 publicly-listed companies and 40,000 funds. The platform took an impressive 3 years to create, and aims to provide data transparency so professionals can get a clear picture of which companies are underperforming.

Backed by the United Kingdom government, it is a business to business model which is currently doing soft launches with various financial industry users across the British market, with plans for global launch.S

So what does this mean for companies and their ESG and sustainability stances?

Worryingly, 45,000 of the 70,000 companies (65%) that Sevva has listed are not addressing climate change.

It is critical for businesses to invest in their ESG goals, and more so to make these readily available to not only stakeholders but the general public.

66% of consumers would spend more on a product if it came from a sustainable brand and according to Horizon Media’s Finger on the Pulse study, 81% of millennials expect companies to declare their corporate citizenship publicly.

It’s clear that how a business performs against ESG and sustainability factors is becoming more and more important. ESG goals need to be incorporated into a businesses main goals, with equal investment akin to maintaining and increasing profits.

Sevva gives users a great platform to see which companies need to improve their performance against the 17 SDG goals and other governance criteria.
